WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for
Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

WHY EKO 4 for Hungarian
Anyone can say they translate Hungarian. These are the three things that actually decide whether a Hungarian file is accepted.
Hungarian puts the family name first, and forms filled straight off a document come out backwards
On a Hungarian certificate Nagy Péter is Mr Péter Nagy: family name, then given name. Copied into a UK form in the order printed, he becomes Mr Nagy Péter, and the application no longer matches his passport. The translation labels which name is the family name and which the given name, so the form is filled correctly the first time.
A married woman’s name may not contain her own given name at all
Hungarian offers several married-name forms, and the traditional one appends –né to the husband’s full name: Nagy Péterné means the wife of Péter Nagy, and her own given name appears nowhere in it. Read as a name it looks like a man’s. Read correctly it identifies a woman. We render the form as issued and explain it, so a caseworker comparing it to her passport is not left to work it out.
The date on a civil extract is the day it was printed, not the day it happened
An anyakönyvi kivonat is an extract from the register, re-issued on request and dated on the day of issue. The event it records may be decades earlier. Both dates are labelled explicitly in the translation, because the two being read as one is a common and avoidable misunderstanding.

Will the Home Office accept a Hungarian translation from you?
Yes, and we guarantee acceptance. It is complete and word for word, including seals and stamps, and issued dated on company letterhead with the translator named and signed and our contact details on it.
Which of the names on my certificate is my surname?
The first one, in Hungarian order. The translation labels both explicitly so the UK form is filled the right way round rather than in the order the document happens to print them.
My wife’s marriage certificate name looks like my name.
It probably is, with the –né ending, which is the traditional Hungarian married form and means “wife of”. We reproduce it as issued and explain what it means, so it does not read as the wrong person.
Do the accents matter?
Yes. ő and ű are separate letters from ö and ü, not decorated versions of them, and swapping them changes the word and the name. Every name is reproduced exactly as issued, accents included.
Can you translate my diploma for a UK university or employer?
Yes, with the transcript alongside it, because that is where the subjects, hours and marks are. Grades are reproduced exactly as awarded and never mapped to a UK classification – comparability is UK ENIC’s judgement.
Do you need my original documents?
No. A clear scan or photograph of both sides is enough for the entire job including certification. Your originals stay with you and a wet-stamped hard copy is posted to your address when you need one.
