CERTIFIED ITALIAN translation, accepted first time

A large share of our Italian work is one thing: citizenship by descent. That is not a single document but a chain of them – a birth, a marriage, a death, in each generation, from the ancestor who emigrated down to you – and every link has to be translated, certified and usually apostilled, in a form the consulate will accept.

We handle the chain as one project with one glossary, so names and place names read the same on every document in it. Everything is certified with a signed declaration of accuracy on company letterhead, dated, with our wet stamp. Send scans and you will have a fixed price and a delivery date before anything starts.

WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for

Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

gov.uk guidance on documents in support of an application

Every Italian translation we issue carries all four elements – a full translation, a date, the translator named and signed, and contact details that can be checked – on company letterhead with our wet stamp. That is what acceptance actually turns on, and it is why we can guarantee it.

WHY EKO 4 for Italian

Anyone can say they translate Italian. These are the three things that actually decide whether a Italian file is accepted.

Citizenship by descent is a chain, not a document

A jure sanguinis file is every birth, marriage and death in the line, generation by generation, and a consulate reads it as one story. Translating the documents separately, months apart, by different people is how the same town ends up spelled three ways and the same ancestor ends up looking like two men. We run the whole chain as one project against one glossary.

The estratto and the copia integrale are different documents

An Italian comune will issue a summary extract or a full transcription of the record with every marginal annotation on it – a marriage, a divorce, a citizenship note. Which one a consulate or a court wants depends on what your case turns on, and the summary frequently omits the exact thing that matters. Send what you have and we will say free of charge whether it will do.

Names are reproduced, not tidied up

In an old civil record a name is whatever the registrar wrote – a first name Italianised, a surname respelled at a port, a place name that has since changed. Those inconsistencies are part of the evidence and often have to be reconciled formally. Every document is translated exactly as written, with the variations preserved and flagged to you, never quietly harmonised into one spelling that appears on no original.

CERTIFIED, SWORN or apostilled – which do you need?

These are three different things and ordering the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake in the process. Which you need is decided entirely by who is receiving the document, and it is the first thing we check when you ask for a quote.

ITALIAN translation – questions, answered

Do you handle whole citizenship-by-descent files?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to order one. The chain is quoted as a single project with one delivery date, translated against one glossary so names, place names and titles read identically across every generation. Send everything you have, including the documents you are unsure about.

Should I send the estratto or the copia integrale?

It depends on what your case rests on. If a later event matters – a marriage, a divorce, a citizenship annotation – the full transcription is the one that shows it. Ask us before you order; the advice costs nothing.

Will the translation be accepted by an Italian consulate?

Consulates set their own requirements and some ask for the translation to be sworn or apostilled on top of certification. Tell us which consulate and what they have asked for, and we will prepare it in that form – the sworn and notarised page covers that route.

My ancestor’s name is spelled differently on two records.

That is extremely common and it is not something a translator should fix. Each document is translated exactly as written and the difference is flagged to you, so you can address it the way the consulate or court requires.

Can you translate a degree for a UK university?

Yes, with the transcript alongside it. Grades are translated exactly as awarded and never mapped to a UK classification – comparability is UK ENIC’s call, not a translator’s.

Do you need my original documents?

No. Clear scans are enough for the whole job including certification, which matters more than usual here: civil records obtained from Italian comuni can take months to replace.

Send your Italian document

A scan or a phone photograph is enough. You will have an itemised written quote, a delivery date and an honest answer on what certification the receiving body actually wants – free, with no obligation, and handled confidentially under UK GDPR.
