Slovak documents usually arrive with a deadline already running: settled status, a right-to-work check, a nursing or teaching registration. The translation is rarely the difficult part. The surnames and the birth number are.

WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for
Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

WHY EKO 4 for Slovak
Anyone can say they translate Slovak. These are the three things that actually decide whether a Slovak file is accepted.
A family appears under two surnames, and neither is wrong
Slovak female surnames take the –ová ending, so Novák and Nováková are husband and wife rather than two unrelated people, and a child’s birth certificate shows both. Each is reproduced as issued and the relationship is explained in a note, so a caseworker comparing a family file is not left deciding whether the names match.
The birth number looks inconsistent with the date of birth, for women, by design
A rodné číslo encodes the date of birth and the sex, and for women 50 is added to the month: a woman born in March carries 53 where a man carries 03. Anyone checking the number against the date of birth without knowing that will find a mismatch that is not there. The number is copied digit for digit and, where it helps, what it encodes is explained.
A pre-1993 document is Czechoslovak, and may not be in Slovak at all
Documents issued before the split are Czechoslovak, and plenty of them are in Czech even for people who have always considered themselves Slovak – and the issuing office may no longer be in the same country. We tell you which language a document is actually in, and which state issued it, before you commit to anything.

Will the Home Office accept a Slovak translation from you?
Yes, and we guarantee acceptance. It is complete and word for word, including seals and stamps, and issued dated on company letterhead with the translator named and signed and our contact details on it.
My surname ends in –ová but my husband’s does not.
That is Slovak grammar rather than a discrepancy: the female form takes the –ová ending. The translation reproduces each name as issued and explains the relationship, so the two read as one family.
Is my document Slovak or Czech?
Often a fair question, particularly for anything issued before 1993, when both were Czechoslovak. Send the scan and we will tell you which it is before you order.
Will you translate my criminal-record extract?
Yes, including the stamps, the reference numbers and the issuing authority, which is the part a UK employer or registration body actually checks.
Can you translate my diploma for a UK university or employer?
Yes, with the transcript alongside it, because that is where the subjects, hours and marks are. Grades are reproduced exactly as awarded and never mapped to a UK classification – comparability is UK ENIC’s judgement.
Do you need my original documents?
No. A clear scan or photograph of both sides is enough for the entire job including certification. Your originals stay with you and a wet-stamped hard copy is posted to your address when you need one.
