CERTIFIED SPANISH translation, accepted first time

Spanish is one language and about twenty document systems. A Spanish certificación literal, a Mexican acta de nacimiento and a Colombian registro civil are all birth records and none of them looks like the others. Which country issued yours changes the form, the vocabulary and often what the receiving body will ask for alongside it.

Documents go to a linguist who works with that country’s paperwork, and are certified with a signed declaration of accuracy on company letterhead, dated, with our wet stamp. Send a scan and you will have a fixed price and a delivery date before anything starts.

WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for

Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

gov.uk guidance on documents in support of an application

Every Spanish translation we issue carries all four elements – a full translation, a date, the translator named and signed, and contact details that can be checked – on company letterhead with our wet stamp. That is what acceptance actually turns on, and it is why we can guarantee it.

WHY EKO 4 for Spanish

Anyone can say they translate Spanish. These are the three things that actually decide whether a Spanish file is accepted.

Two surnames, and UK forms only have one box

Spanish-speaking countries give a person two surnames – the father’s then the mother’s – and both are part of the legal name. UK forms usually have a single “last name” field, so applicants drop one, and then the translated certificate and the application disagree. We reproduce both surnames exactly as the document gives them, in the order it gives them, and it is worth using the same form everywhere in your file.

The literal certificate is the one with the history on it

Spain issues an abbreviated extract and a certificación literal, the full transcription with every marginal annotation – a divorce, a name change, a recognition. If your case turns on something that happened after the original entry, the extract will not show it. Send us what you have and we will tell you free of charge whether it will do.

Which country, not just which language

A Spanish notarial deed, an Argentine partida and a Peruvian police certificate use different terms for the same things, and translating one with the other’s vocabulary produces a document that reads as though it were describing something else. Tell us where it was issued and it is assigned accordingly.

CERTIFIED, SWORN or apostilled – which do you need?

These are three different things and ordering the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake in the process. Which you need is decided entirely by who is receiving the document, and it is the first thing we check when you ask for a quote.

Certified translation

A signed declaration of accuracy on company letterhead, dated, with the translator named and our wet stamp applied – what the Home Office, UKVI, HMCTS, universities and employers ask for.

SPANISH translation – questions, answered

Will the Home Office accept a Spanish translation from you?

Yes, and we guarantee acceptance. It is complete and word for word, including seals, stamps and marginal annotations, and it is issued dated, on company letterhead, with the translator named and signed and our contact details on it.

Which of my two surnames should I use on the UK form?

That is your decision and your solicitor’s rather than ours, but be consistent: whichever form you use, use it everywhere in the file. Our translation always reproduces both surnames as the document gives them, so the caseworker can see the full legal name whatever the form says.

Do you translate documents from Latin America as well as Spain?

Yes, and not as one queue. The registry systems and their vocabulary differ country by country, so a document goes to a linguist who works with that country’s paperwork. Tell us where it was issued when you send it.

My Spanish certificate is an extract rather than a literal one.

It may still be fine – it depends on what your case turns on. If a later event matters, the literal version is the one with the annotations. Ask us before you order; the advice is free.

I need the translation for a Spanish office, not a UK one.

Then it usually needs an apostille as well as certification, and the order runs translation, certification, apostille. The apostille page sets out how that works and what it costs you in time.

Do you need my original document?

No. A clear scan or photograph is enough for the entire job including certification, and hard copies with our wet stamp are posted to your address when you need one.

Send your Spanish document

A scan or a phone photograph is enough. You will have an itemised written quote, a delivery date and an honest answer on what certification the receiving body actually wants – free, with no obligation, and handled confidentially under UK GDPR.

SPANISH TRANSLATION wherever you are in the UK

The whole service runs digitally, so where you are makes no difference to the work, the timing or the price. Send a scan, approve the quote, and the finished translation comes back by email – with a wet-stamped hard copy posted to your address when you need one.
