Greek civil status is recorded twice over, in two different documents that people frequently confuse. The registry act is the entry made when the event happened; the certificate is what the municipal register says about you now. Which one an authority wants depends on what it is checking.

WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for
Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

The registry act and the certificate are two different documents
A lixiarchiki praxi is the act recorded at the time of the event; a pistopoiitiko is what the municipal register states now. They contain different things, and an office that asked for one will not accept the other. If you are not sure which you are holding, send it and we will tell you free of charge before anything is translated.
Your passport already chose a spelling of your name
Greek names are put into Latin letters by an official transliteration standard, and traditional spellings – the ones on older documents and in family use – frequently differ from it. We use the spelling on your current passport throughout the file, reproduce the source spelling where it differs, and flag it rather than leaving a caseworker to reconcile two names.
Greece and Cyprus are separate systems
Cypriot documents come from different offices, use different references and are frequently issued in English as well as Greek, which does not remove the need for a certified translation. Tell us where the document was issued and it is assigned to a linguist who works with that paperwork.

Will the Home Office accept a Greek translation from you?
Yes, and we guarantee acceptance. It is complete and word for word, including seals, stamps and register references, and issued dated on company letterhead with the translator named and signed and our contact details on it.
Should I send the registry act or the certificate?
It depends on who is reading it, and getting it wrong is the most common problem on Greek files. Send us what you have and we will tell you free of charge whether it answers the question you have been asked.
My name is spelled differently on different documents.
Tell us which spelling your current passport uses and we hold it across the file, reproducing the source spellings where they differ so nothing is concealed.
My documents are Cypriot rather than Greek.
