CERTIFIED PORTUGUESE translation, accepted first time

Portuguese is two working traditions rather than one. Brazilian civil records come from a cartório, are reissued rather than photocopied, and carry their history in annotations down the margin. Portuguese records come from a Conservatória do Registo Civil and use different vocabulary for the same events.

We translate both, by linguists who work in the right variety rather than whichever was free, and certify with a signed declaration of accuracy on company letterhead, dated, with our wet stamp. Send a scan and you will have a fixed price and a delivery date before anything starts.

WHAT THE HOME OFFICE actually asks for

Where documents provided are not in English or Welsh, you must provide a full dated and signed translation in English that can be verified. This must be dated and include the full name and signature of the translator or an authorised official of the translation company and their contact details.

gov.uk guidance on documents in support of an application

Every Portuguese translation we issue carries all four elements – a full translation, a date, the translator named and signed, and contact details that can be checked – on company letterhead with our wet stamp. That is what acceptance actually turns on, and it is why we can guarantee it.

WHY EKO 4 for Portuguese

Anyone can say they translate Portuguese. These are the three things that actually decide whether a Portuguese file is accepted.

Brazilian and European Portuguese are not interchangeable

The same event has different names in the two systems, and the registry vocabulary diverges much further than everyday language does. A translator who works with Brazilian records and one who works with Portuguese records are not the same person, and we assign accordingly rather than treating “Portuguese” as one queue.

The averbações are usually the point

Brazilian certificates record later events – a divorce, a name change, a recognition of paternity – as annotations in the margin rather than by reissuing a different document. Those annotations are frequently the exact thing the receiving body needs to see, and they are translated in full, in place, with their dates and references.

A reissued certidão supersedes the old one

Brazilian civil records are reissued on request rather than photocopied, so the version in your drawer may be years out of date and missing everything that has happened since. If your document is old and your case turns on a later event, obtain a fresh copy before you pay for a translation of the wrong one – and ask us first if you are unsure. That advice is free.

CERTIFIED, SWORN or apostilled – which do you need?

These are three different things and ordering the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake in the process. Which you need is decided entirely by who is receiving the document, and it is the first thing we check when you ask for a quote.

PORTUGUESE translation – questions, answered

Do you translate Brazilian and European Portuguese?

Both, and not as one queue. The registry systems and their vocabulary differ enough that a document goes to a linguist who works with that country’s paperwork. Tell us where the document was issued and it is assigned accordingly.

Will the Home Office accept a Portuguese translation from you?

Yes, and we guarantee acceptance. It is complete and word for word, including seals, stamps and marginal annotations, and it is issued dated, on company letterhead, with the translator named and signed and our contact details on it.

My Brazilian certificate is from years ago. Is that a problem?

It can be. Brazilian records are reissued rather than photocopied, and anything that has happened since – a divorce, a name change – is written into the margin of the current version, not yours. If your case depends on one of those events, get a fresh copy first. Ask us before you order if you are not sure; the advice costs nothing.

Can you translate my diploma for a UK university or UK ENIC?

Yes, with the histórico escolar or transcript alongside it, because that is where the modules, hours and grading scale are. Grades are translated exactly as awarded and never mapped to a UK classification – comparability is UK ENIC’s judgement, not a translator’s.

Do you need my original document?

No. A clear scan or photograph is enough for the whole job including certification, front and back. Your original stays with you and a wet-stamped hard copy is posted to your address if you need one.

How long does it take?

A standard civil-registry certificate is normally back within 24 to 72 hours, and expedited delivers as fast as 24 hours without removing the second linguist from the process.

Send your Portuguese document

A scan or a phone photograph is enough. You will have an itemised written quote, a delivery date and an honest answer on what certification the receiving body actually wants – free, with no obligation, and handled confidentially under UK GDPR.

PORTUGUESE TRANSLATION wherever you are in the UK

The whole service runs digitally, so where you are makes no difference to the work, the timing or the price. Send a scan, approve the quote, and the finished translation comes back by email – with a wet-stamped hard copy posted to your address when you need one.
